Founders

JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE

American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) award
American Water Works Association (AWA) project of the year

In Johnson City’s historic downtown district, a creek lay hidden under an 80-year-old abandoned industrial warehouse. The area frequently flooded, rendering useless an otherwise attractive and well-situated part of a growing downtown. LDA worked with Johnson City to develop a plan that would solve these issues and create a beautiful, vibrant space to directly boost the economic development of the downtown district.

The first phase of Founders Park is an environmentally enhancing open channel for the creek, surrounded by a pedestrian-friendly greenway park.

By redesigning with both infrastructure and public use in mind, LDA created a beautifully functional park, environmentally improved the stream and 7-square-mile drainage area and paved the way for surrounding economic growth.
