LDA Engineering has won a statewide project of the year award from the Tennessee Chapter of American Public Works Association (TCAPWA) for its work on the West Walnut Street Corridor Redevelopment Project in partnership with the City of Johson City.
The 2025 Mark Miller Project of the Year award recognizes outstanding planning, construction and management. LDA Engineering received the award at the TCAPWA annual conference in Memphis on September 24.

This project transformed a blighted industrial corridor into a vibrant, multimodal urban boulevard linking East Tennessee State University (ETSU) to the heart of downtown Johnson City.
“This project is more than roadway improvements – it’s a reimagining of how infrastructure can serve a community,” said Jason Brooks, CEO of LDA Engineering. “We’re honored to partner with Johnson City to help deliver a corridor that connects people, strengthens local businesses, and inspires future growth.”
Through decades of planning and extensive dialogue with local residents, the area now reflects the wants and needs of the community. The space includes features like ADA compliant protected bike lanes, expanded sidewalks, urban landscaping and a new pedestrian plaza, creating a more walkable and vibrant city.
The corridor serves as a catalyst for downtown revitalization and encourages private development while also investing in existing businesses and neighborhoods.
