JOHNSON CITY AWARDS LDA ENGINEERING TWO INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

March 20, 2014

LDA Engineering, teaming with Hazen & Sawyer, was recently selected by the City of Johnson City to perform preliminary design work on replacing the interceptor on the Lower Brush Creek sanitary sewer. The firm has also been selected to provide consulting and system support for the City’s sanitary sewer system.

“We are excited and proud to once again be chosen by the City of Johnson City to assist in updating the wastewater infrastructure in Johnson City,” said LDA Engineering President Jason Brooks. “Our team of water engineering experts stand ready to provide excellent engineering design, field work and consulting service to improve the efficiency of Johnson City’s sanitary sewer system.”

LDA Engineering partnered with Hazen and Sawyer, an environmental engineering firm that is taking the lead on the project, to replace 19,000 linear feet of aging 36-inch concrete interceptor in the Lower Brush Creek sanitary sewer. An interceptor is a large-diameter sewer line designed to catch water flow in a large geographic area. LDA engineering will provide preliminary engineering work and field work services, and Hazen and Sawyer will provide detailed design.

“Replacing aging infrastructure is necessary for the community to progress,” said Johnson City Director of Utilities Tom Witherspoon. “Replacing these pipes will increase wastewater treatment efficiency and allow our city to move forward with other initiatives, including our long-term storm water management goals. We are proud to work with LDA Engineering on the interceptor replacement project and to consult with them on an ongoing basis for our sewer infrastructure needs.”

The Lower Brush Creek project is the fourth major interceptor replacement project undertaken in Johnson City in a multi-part $19 million initiative to replace aging water infrastructure. The new interceptor starts east of Broadway Street and will run to the Brush Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The replacement of the aging interceptors in the sanitary sewer system was identified as a priority in Johnson City’s 2008 study of the sewer infrastructure.

For the on-call sanitary sewer system support to the City of Johnson City, the firm will provide professional engineering design and consulting services for various types of projects, including sanitary sewer interceptor line sizing; sewer pumping station design, modification or enhancement; general wastewater system consulting; and sewer rehabilitation design.

The City of Johnson City operates a wastewater system consisting of three wastewater treatment plants, more than 560 miles of gravity and pressure sewer lines and approximately 100 sewer pumping stations over nearly 97 square miles.
