LDA Engineering worked with the Knoxville Utilities Board to complete major improvements to their West Knox water booster station. This project was completed in two phases. Phase one included upgrades and improvements to pumps 1 and 2, while phase two encompassed pumps 3, 4, 5, and 6. LDA’s responsibilities included design, assistance with bidding, services during construction, and electrical/instrumentation support.
Early in the project, LDA assisted KUB with the pre-construction conference, bidding, and awarding the contract. The pumps, motors, valves, fittings, and piping on pumps 1 and 2 were replaced, and new variable frequency drivers (VFD) were installed along with new vibration switches. The pumps had a capacity of 2,100 gpm. In addition, two existing pumps and related valves, fittings, and piping were demolished, which concluded the first phase of the project.
Phase two installations include VFD’s, two new pumps, three new motors, new steel pump/motor frames, all new piping and valves, four new vibration switches, and demolition on two pumps and motors. Additionally, LDA attended progress meetings and worked closely with KUB staff to complete the improvements.Back to Projects
