LDA Engineering provided planning, design, and bidding services for three pump station rehabilitations for the City of Kingsport. These stations were the Abilene, Thornton, and Wesley stations, and all three of the stations had exceeded their useful life and were susceptible to mechanical and electrical failures. The project was funded with American Relief and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds. LDA provided assistance in verifying the ARRA requirements and the “Buy American” provisions by coordinating with suppliers of major items of equipment. LDA also provided communication with potential bidders during the bidding phase and review of submittals during the bidding and construction phases of the project.
The project involved the replacement of one prefabricated steel can station with a new submersible station, as well as the rehabilitation of two additional steel can stations. The rehabilitations included new pumps, motors, valves, piping, and other appurtenances. All three station designs included new magnetic flow meters, diesel powered emergency generators, and combination bypass pump connection/ line pigging assemblies. In addition, the designs also included new ultrasonic level pump control equipment with submersible transducer backup and provisions for future SCADA equipment.
LDA provided engineering services during construction including, review of pay requests, review of ARRA compliance submittals, attending progress meetings, and coordination with the City’s inspector.
