DATES: 2004-2006
COST: $713,000
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Streetscape Improvements
- Wider Sidewalks
- Intersection Relocation
- Enhanced Pedestrian Access
LDA was awarded a contract to provide professional engineering services to the City of Chattanooga to design an intersection relocation and streetscape improvements at two intersections near downtown. The intersections are located on the north side of the Tennessee River adjacent to Coolidge Park. The proposed streetscapes included wider sidewalks with street trees, landscaping, and pedestrian level lighting to enhance pedestrian access to the park. The design also includes textured concrete pavement in each intersection with new mast arm traffic signal poles, storm drainage, irrigation, new curb and gutter, and realignment of an existing intersection.
Services provided by LDA included meeting with stakeholders such as the Public Works Administrator, the City Engineer, and representatives from the Engineering Department, Traffic Operations Department, Tennessee Department of Transportation, River City Corporation, and the City Design Center. LDA met individually with the River City Corporation, which is the non-profit organization responsible for the Coolidge Park expansion. This meeting was conducted to discuss the scope of the streetscape and park improvements and to develop a seamless tie-in between the two projects. In addition, LDA discussed the streetscape project with representatives of the Tennessee Department of Transportation and their design consultant to coordinate the streetscape design with an adjacent bridge rehabilitation project.
LDA also provided construction administration services to the City during construction of the intersection relocation, and the construction was performed in two phases. LDA assisted the City by providing construction layout assistance to aid City forces in construction of the first phase.
