LDA provided design services to the City of Gatlinburg for the replacement of approximately 3,000 linear feet of existing overloaded interceptor pipe with a new 24-inch pipe. The existing interceptor was located in the center of River Road, a very busy street with numerous commercial establishments and hotels accessing the downtown area from the street.
Due to numerous other underground utilities, a river on one side of the street, and buildings in close proximity the new interceptor had to be installed in the same trench as the existing one. LDA reviewed all available drawings and other documentation prior to performing a detailed survey of the route. After the survey and a preliminary design were completed, LDA met with utility operators and business owners to discuss potential conflicts, temporary service disruptions, and ingress/egress requirements.
The final design included requirements for working hours, time frames for service disruptions, and a requirement that each manhole to manhole pipe section be installed, tested, and put back into service before moving to the next section. LDA also provided engineering services during construction and RPR services for this high profile, tight schedule project. The project was successful in that the line was installed with minimum disruptions to existing business owners and tourists.Back to Projects
